乗車券

What it means

The ticket for the fare between two stations. The fare depends on distance. On a Shinkansen you need a limited express ticket as well.

Watch for

A 乗車券 alone is not enough for a Shinkansen; you also need a 特急券. Some tickets and passes cover both in one.
