What it means
A local train that stops at all or nearly all stations on its line. It usually needs only the basic fare ticket. 普通車 is the ordinary car, as opposed to the Green Car.
Watch for
普通 can mean the local train type or, in 普通車, the ordinary car. Check which one the sign or ticket means.
