Leave the Shinkansen gates and follow 在来線 to the conventional-line entrance. JR’s diagram labels the two station buildings individually, so plan for a walk between gates even when both tickets say 筑後船小屋.

Do I leave the Shinkansen building at Chikugo-Funagoya to catch the Kagoshima Main Line?

Yes. Leave the Shinkansen gates and follow 在来線 to the conventional-line building and its own ticket gate. Both buildings carry the name 筑後船小屋.

Platforms

Here both networks show Hakata as a direction. Check the building and the platform number as well as the destination: the Shinkansen uses 11–13, while the conventional line uses 1–2.

Finding your way

JR’s April 2025 plan puts the bus stop and taxi rank at East Exit (東口) of the Shinkansen building. It marks a waiting room in each building; the multipurpose nursing room is in the Shinkansen building.

At the 7 November 2026 check, JR Kyushu listed the staffed counter at 07:30–19:00 and machine collection of eligible online bookings at 05:40–23:20. Staff may be away during breaks or station rounds. Recheck the station page before an early or late collection.
