Named service
さくら
Sakura
さくら is the service name. On a ticket reading さくら401号 鹿児島中央行, 401 is the train number and 鹿児島中央行 means “bound for Kagoshima-Chūō”. South of Hakata it runs on the Kyūshū Shinkansen.
A Sakura through from the San’yō line uses an eight-car N700. Within Kyūshū, a Sakura may also use a six-car 800. Match your date and number in the Hakata timetable, then open that train for its stops and scheduled platform. Check the station board before boarding.
My ticket says さくら401号 鹿児島中央行. What do I match on the board at Hakata?
Match さくら (Sakura), 401 (the train number), 鹿児島中央 (the destination) and the departure time. Then check のりば for the platform. This train heads south on the Kyūshū Shinkansen. To check its scheduled formation, open the numbered train in JR’s timetable for your date.
