Former name on older maps: Nishi-Kagoshima (西鹿児島), until March 2004.
Making the transfer
The line name includes Ibusuki, but some trains terminate earlier at Kiire (喜入). Check your destination in the individual train’s stop list. JR’s plan marks lifts, but a continuous step-free path from your arriving platform to your onward platform has yet to be verified. For assistance, use JR Kyushu’s request page or ask staff at the transfer gate.
At Kagoshima-Chūō, will every train on the Ibusuki Makurazaki Line take me to Ibusuki?
Some trains end at Kiire (喜入), before Ibusuki. From the Shinkansen follow 新幹線乗換口 to the conventional lines, then check that 指宿 appears in the stop list for your departure.
The map separates Shinkansen platforms 11–14 from conventional platforms 1–6. For a connection to a conventional train, use the train’s destination and the departure board to choose among 1–6. The Shinkansen arrows point back towards Kumamoto and Hakata.
For the east-side plaza and taxi rank, follow 桜島口(東口), the Sakurajima Exit. JR draws an underground passage beneath the plaza. The general information counter (総合案内所) is on the concourse near the conventional-line gate.
A signed transfer can include stairs. For a continuous lift route and boarding assistance, confirm the platforms and onward operator with station staff.
