The Hisatsu Orange Railway stop is unstaffed. Take a numbered boarding slip (整理券) when you board its train. If you already hold a valid ticket or commuter pass for that ride, board without taking a slip.

Which railway takes me from Shin-Minamata to Minamata Station?
Change to the Hisatsu Orange Railway (肥薩おれんじ鉄道) and look for 水俣方面, towards Minamata. JR’s station plan shows 八代方面 in the other direction.

Finding your way
For the bus, head for the plaza beside the Shinkansen building. JR’s plan puts the bus stop and taxi rank around the same roundabout. The station waiting room is on the concourse near the Shinkansen gate.

What inspired the station’s exterior?
The 2011 guide describes the exterior through the image of ripples on the Shiranui Sea. Compare that idea with the repeated horizontal forms of the building. Hood also records a sail-inspired design, giving two documented ways of reading the same coastal setting.
